Our main character, Josie, is easy to root for. The quick tempo means you’re constantly moving forward, and every chapter pushes the mystery closer to its breaking point. While some characters wave their red flags early, the story moves so fast you barely have time to dwell on them.

What stood out most was how neatly everything tied together by the end. No lingering loose ends, no threads left hanging — just a tight, satisfying conclusion that feels earned.

This was a one-sitting read for me, devoured in a single night after work. James Caine is a new author on my shelf, but after this, I’ll definitely be picking up more of his books.

Sweet Boy

Just a few short months ago, on April 25, 2025, I said goodbye to my 12 year old husky hybrid, McCloud. He was 12 years, 4 months, and 17 days to be exact. The thing about it is... it's not getting easier. I have constant flashbacks to that day, to his last few days and those final moments. I still cry when I think about it and him.
