From the start, the setup is irresistible: Amber is in a coma, her marriage is falling apart, and she warns us she sometimes lies. The deeper we go, the more tangled the truth becomes.

I found myself unusually protective of Amber — both “coma Amber” and 11-year-old Amber. Her helplessness in the hospital and the neglect she endured as a child made every twist land harder. Even early on, I noticed something odd: her sister is never mentioned in the diary entries. That was clue #1 for me that something wasn’t adding up.

At one point, I suspected Paul — because in thrillers, it’s always the spouse, right? But Feeney masterfully dismantled every theory I had, sometimes within just a few pages.

The moment that blew my mind came around the 60% mark. My fiancΓ© and I literally diagrammed the plot on paper to keep track of who was who and when events happened. And then came the big reveal: Amber is Taylor. Claire is Amber. Paul is still Paul. The identity switch was dizzying at first, but once it clicked, the payoff was worth it.

The ending delivered twisted revenge, blurred moral lines, and a conclusion that felt both wrong and so right. For a genre that often prioritizes shock over satisfaction, Sometimes I Lie gave me both — and left me wanting to talk about it immediately.
